There are estimated to be 5.4million businesses in the UK, with over 99.3% of these being small companies, freelancers and solopreneurs. Many people credit this boom in small business growth on technology and the opportunities it presents, but with so many online and using Social Media it can be tough to stand out from the crowd. This workshop looks at why a strong online presence is essential for business success and the many opportunities social media, mobile and location based services present to small businesses and freelancers.

We will examine how connecting the online and offline world lead to better customer engagement, and how developing a good online strategy can boost your online marketing without breaking the bank. This workshop will share the simple tips and tricks that will help you reach new audiences and find new customers, we will also look at how you can make yourself easier to find. By examining the most popular platforms you will see that using the many free tools they offer can easily give you the competitive edge, perfect for those starting their online journey.

By the end of the course you will know:

• How to set-up and optimise your social media pages
• How to connect with existing customers
• How to make yourself easier to find
• How to use social media as a prospecting tool
• How to use free and low-cost tools to make social media simple

The course will be delivered by Liz Hardwick of DigiEnable, who has many years of experience in supporting digital skills development for freelancers. The course is intended as an introduction to get up and running with online content and social/mobile media. A more in depth course for writing content for the web is planned for later in the new year.
