From base to screen: Supporting The Split Up at Space Studios Manchester

Space Studios Manchester supported the new BBC legal drama The Split Up, providing the production with a flexible unit base and supporting spaces during filming across Greater Manchester.

The six-part series, from the makers of the hit drama The Split, is set within Manchester’s high-stakes world of family law. It follows rising lawyer Aria Kishan as she prepares to take over her family’s prestigious legal practice, Kishan Law.

Starring Ritu Arya and Sanjeev Bhaskar, alongside Aysha Kala, Arian Nik, Danny Ashok and Dimitri Leonidas, the series launches on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on 20 September.

Supporting the production at Space

Between October 2025 and January 2026, the production used Space Studios Manchester as a flexible unit base at key stages throughout filming.

Additional rooms within Space 06 were used for supporting artists and preparation in our workshops, while spaces within the main studio complex supported the costume department. The production team was also based in our offices at neighbouring Arbeta, bringing together production facilities and flexible workspace from across the wider group.

This combination enabled the production to access the different spaces it needed throughout filming, all within one connected production environment close to Manchester city centre.

Filming across Greater Manchester

Beyond its base at Space, The Split Up filmed extensively across Manchester and Wigan, showcasing the variety of locations available across Greater Manchester.

Screen Manchester supported filming at locations including the Northern Quarter, Castlefield, Spinningfields and Manchester city centre. Meanwhile, Wigan Film Office supported filming throughout Wigan Borough, where the iconic Leigh Town Hall was transformed into the headquarters of the fictional Kishan Law.

Together, the production’s unit base, supporting facilities and city-region locations demonstrate the breadth of production support available across Greater Manchester, from base to screen.

The Split Up launched on BBC One and BBC iPlayer last night, 20 September 2026.
