Production Focus: ‘Everything I Know About Love’

Everything I Know About Love filmed at Space Studios Manchester for 24 weeks from June to December 2021, making use of Stage 05, Workshop 01 and our large production offices.

Produced by Working Title Television for the BBC, the seven-part series is adapted from Dolly Alderton’s bestselling memoir and follows childhood best friends Maggie and Birdy as they navigate friendship, relationships, careers and the chaos of their twenties.

Starring Emma Appleton, Bel Powley, Marli Siu and Aliyah Odoffin, the series was directed by China Moo-Young and Julia Ford, with Simon Maloney producing and Dolly Alderton, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Surian Fletcher-Jones and Jo McClellan among the executive producers.

Although the story takes Maggie and Birdy to London, Manchester played an important role both as a production base and on screen. Filming took place across the city, with St John’s Gardens doubling for Camden and scenes also filmed around Deansgate and a number of Manchester bars, restaurants and offices.

Production designer Charlotte Pearson worked closely with China Moo-Young to bring the world of the series to life, matching the production’s visual references with locations found across Manchester.

Everything I Know About Love premiered in June 2022 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
