A major new investment is set to bring more film and television production, and more opportunities, to Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has launched a £10.5 million Production Fund to attract ambitious film and television projects, support local production companies and create opportunities for the region’s crew, freelancers and production businesses.

The fund will support market-ready feature films and scripted and unscripted television projects. It is open to Greater Manchester-based companies and productions coming into the region, provided they can deliver meaningful local benefits through production spend, filming, employment, skills development or the use of regional facilities.

Typically, projects can apply for between £50,000 and £750,000, or up to 20% of the production budget. The funding will primarily be offered as recoupable investment and is expected to be deployed over three years.

For Space, the fund is a welcome vote of confidence in Greater Manchester’s growing screen industry. The region already offers purpose-built studios, experienced crew, production services and an extraordinary variety of locations. This investment will help more productions access that ecosystem while creating lasting opportunities for the people and businesses based here.

The fund forms part of Greater Manchester’s ambition to become the UK’s leading screen-industry cluster outside London by 2028—and to see more of the region’s stories, places and talent represented on screen.
